SMASH

Smash was a Spanish prog/psychedelic rock band with flamenco sitar. Formed in 1967 the band Smash recorded their first single in 1969. Their two albums “Glorieta de los Lotos” and “We Come To Smash This Time” became cult rarities. The flamenco touch is evident through guitar style of Manuel Molina, applied to traditional “palos” or tarantos.

Gualberto, Garcia Perez, developed a unique manner to play a mix between flamenco and fusion rock music. He created flamenco sitar which consists to perform flamenco basic scales on sitar.

Smash was a supergroup formed by individuals of undoubted talent. The band was formed of multi-instrumentalist Gualberto Garcia, who started the band in 1967 with singer, bassist Julio Matito and drummer Antonio Rodriguez, in 1969 they added the flamenco guitar player Manuel Molina and the danish violinist and guitarist Henrik Michael.

The group disbanded in 1973, Matito early death in July 1979 foiled an attempt to regroup at the end of the decade.
